3Com Announces Unified Communications Solution For Networked Telephony

NBX® Unified Communications Brings Anywhere-Anytime Access for Users

MISSISSAUGA, Ont., October 17, 2001 - 3Com Canada today unveiled the 3Com® NBX® Unified Communications application to give business customers universal access to voice, fax, and email messages from virtually any communication device. The new software application is compatible with 3Com's NBX® Networked Telephony solutions and allows business users to easily manage messages exactly as they want from any location. By providing an easy-to-use solution for unified communications that works in conjunction with its IP-based business telephone systems, 3Com is enabling businesses to be more productive and responsive to customers, suppliers and employees.

The NBX Unified Communications application enables business users to access all of their messages from a variety of common communication devices, such as telephone, cell phone, web client or PC, regardless of the message media type. For example, using the built-in speech recognition and text-to-speech, users can listen and reply to e-mails and voice mails, direct fax messaging, and respond to all communications more quickly and efficiently.

  • Speech recognition services for navigating auto attendant menus;
  • Integrated voice, fax and email message storage with user defined rules for managing mailboxes;
  • Integration and synchronization with Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes email systems;
  • Multimedia client with computer telephony integration (CTI) links;
  • Multi-site networking solutions for distributed business operations; and
  • Multi-lingual media translation services

The NBX Unified Communications application gives businesses a true internetworking solution by facilitating seamless messaging across multiple locations. Pricing and Availability
Expected to be available in Canada in the first quarter calendar year 2002, the NBX Unified Communications applications will cost $189 CDN per user for a 200-user system.
